WINNIPEG, MB: The Winnipeg Police Association (WPA) has a long history of supporting the Cops For Kids bike relay team in their efforts to raise money for the Children's Wish Foundation. The 2016 relay team consisted of 16 WPA members who pedaled 1,500 km from Winnipeg to Chicago to raise money to grant two young boys’ wishes and was the 11th year Cops for Kids completed a ride raising money for the Children's Wish Foundation. The 2016 Cops for Kids relay team raised $24,000 bringing the 11-year total to $480,000. “
As a result of this long history of supporting children's wishes, the Winnipeg Police Association attended the Children's Wish Foundation Shiver Gala in February, 2017,” said WPA member, Ward Gordon. “As part of the Gala event a live auction was held that included the opportunity to bid on a wish. The auction was to benefit a 7-year-old boy named Thomas whose wish was to go to the Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Camp Verde, Arizona. Our Winnipeg Police Association delegation successfully Bid $8,000 to grant Thomas’ wish.” Children’s Wish recipient Thomas will be traveling to the Out of Africa Wildlife Park with his parents and older sister. The wildlife park offers an African bush safari, tiger splash, giant snake show, wildlife show, and the experience of feeding tigers and viewing all of the animals up-close.
“Together with the two wishes granted through the Cops for Kids relay team, the WPA is delighted to be able to support Thomas’ wish as well,” added WPA President, Maurice Sabourin. “All police officers believe it is our duty and privilege to support children’s charities in Winnipeg. We were honoured and grateful for the opportunity to grant children’s wishes.”
