“Congratulations and kudos to Cal Berzuk and the Winnipeg Police Credit Union for their outstanding gesture of donating their share of the raffle total to the CHFM”, said Sabourin. “The $92,565 is much needed by the CHFM as the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected their usual fundraising initiatives.”
As the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the cancellation of the annual WPA Charity Ball, the WPA executive opted to run a 50/50 raffle instead. “The WPA teamed up with FundingChange.ca and went to work acquiring a raffle licence and developing a marketing plan,” said Sabourin. “Our good friend Brody Jackson from QX 104 FM agreed to be the celebrity spokesperson for the campaign and Manitobans stepped up to buy tickets. We are so very grateful to everyone who helped promote the 50/50 and the folks who purchased tickets,” he added.
The Winnipeg Police Association has supported the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba for 35 years through the annual WPA Charity Ball. Next year, the 96th Annual WPA Charity Ball will take place Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Canad Inns Polo Park and is the longest running annual charity function of its kind in North America.
