Protecting What Matters

WINNIPEG, MB: Cory Wiles, President, Winnipeg Police Association (WPA) joined by Markus Chambers, Deputy Mayor, City of Winnipeg; Jeremy Cull, Vice President, WPA; Tori Patzer, Principal, Ecole Van Walleghem School; and Brody Jackson, host, QX 104 FM today kicked-off the 12th annual Cool 2Be Kind campaign in front of over 565 kindergarten to grade eight students at Ecole Van Walleghem School.

Cool 2Be Kind was created by the WPA to help to teach students the value of being kind to others and making positive choices in school and in life.

Students and educators from Winnipeg K-8 schools are invited to submit a Kindness project proposal with the opportunity to receive funding in the amount of $500 to see their project come to life. “As each school Kindness project is designed by students and educators to meet the specific needs of the students, it has a much greater chance of making an impact,” said Wiles.

Over the past eleven years, the Cool 2Be Kind campaign has funded 291 school Kindness projects totaling $145,500.

The Winnipeg Police Association believes teaching students the benefits of kindness in a positive, pro-active approach. “We want young people to experience the power of kindness,” said Wiles. “Education is all about preparing young people to be happy, productive citizens and being kind to others is a recipe for success in life.”

Funding for Cool 2Be Kind school Kindness projects is provided by the Winnipeg Police Association and generous corporate sponsors. For a complete sponsor list visit: www.cool2bekind.ca

“The Winnipeg Police Association thanks all sponsors for their kind support and we continue to invite companies, organizations and individuals to get involved,” said Wiles. “A contribution of $500 will fund one school Kindness project.”

Students and educators from Winnipeg K-8 schools may visit www.cool2bekind.ca and submit their Kindness project proposal online. The deadline for Kindness project submissions is December 31, 2023.
