Protecting What Matters

WINNIPEG, MB:  Today, the TELUS Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad (MRFD) attracted 1,547 registered riders to set a new record.

The previous record of 1,510 riders set in 2017 has finally been surpassed thanks to the dedicated motorcycle community in Manitoba. Funds raised from today’s Ride will total approximately $300,000. This brings the ten-year fundraising total to over $2.4M. Proceeds stay in Manitoba for prostate cancer research and education.

Top earners were Tony Kusiak - $23,575; Bill Brokke - $10,670; Gary Bernard - $9,410; and Sonia Kraynyk - $7,179.

“Thank you riders, pledge donors, sponsors and volunteers,” said MRFD co-chair, Kirk Van Alstyne. “The TELUS Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad continues to lead the nation for funds raised and total number of registered riders. 100 percent of pledge donations stay in Manitoba to fight prostate cancer as all expenses are underwritten by corporate sponsors.”

Starting from the Polo Park Shopping Centre parking lot next to Earls, motorcycle riders rode west in a police escorted parade down Portage Avenue to Assiniboia Downs, then north to Selkirk, Gimli and back. The day-long event culminates with a wind-up celebration at Cowboys, Canad Inns Windsor Park.

Joining the TELUS Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad official start were Celebrity Ride Captains Ami Houde, women’s motocross champion and Monster-truck driver; Gord Leclerc, CTV News anchor; and Doug Brown and Obby Khan of the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Alumni.

Guest speakers were Member of Parliament for Charleswood, St. James, Assiniboia and Headingley, Doug Eylofson; Superintendent, Winnipeg Police Service, Rich Loewen; Chief, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, John Lane: and Regional Director, TELUS, Tim Prokipchuk.

The TELUS Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad is led by the Winnipeg Police Association with the volunteer organizing committee made up of Winnipeg police officers, community and business leaders, and dedicated citizens.

The Manitoba Motorcycle Ride for Dad is made possible with support from TELUS, national title sponsor; PlayNow.com, regional presenting sponsor; the Winnipeg Police Association; Winnipeg Police Service; RCMP; Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service; and other valued sponsors, motorcycle clubs, riders, donors and volunteers.
